THE 2010 TRI SHAVE WOMEN’S TRIATHLON FESTIVAL

October 31st 2010 - Sydney International Regatta Centre

Note: Entry closes 8:00pm, Friday October 17th 2010

BREAKING NEWS:  In 2010 there is a second date added for the START of the new 2010/2111 season - so set aside October 31st 2010 as your chance to be part of the a second Tri Shave Women's Festival and be in shape for the start of the triathlon season!  And there will be a round of the TNSW State Junior Series held in conjuntion with the Women's events - for girls only!

THE PROGRAM WILL COMMENCE WITH THE FIRST EVENT AT 8:00am; meaning  you've got time to have breakfast in bed; and an hour longer than normal to make it to the Sydney Regatta Centre at Penrith!

In October 2010 there will be FOUR events in which to participate or compete. You'll be able to Tri-a-Try, an Enticer, or go harder in the Midi, or race the Sprint. There's individual entry to all events with relay team entries to the 'sprint' event only.

TriNSW will recognise new talent in the 'Try-A-Tri', the 'Enticer' and the 'Midi' events with an Encouragement Award Trophy in each event, and of course age group winners will be recognised in the sprint race with medals for first second and third...

And stay around, because following the official Presentations will be the Lucky Draws, one of the great traditions for events in triathlon... and importantly all participants on the day are eligible!

Triathlon NSW, the peak body of the sport of triathlon in NSW, will conduct this day of triathlon just for females who want to try a tri - and also for those who want to go hard as well - and all those in between, as this year you can pick one of four distances, and two have team entries too!

The start the season Tri Shave Women's Festival is set for Otober 31st at Sydney's International Regatta Centre, Penrith and features a great day out, with various competitions for women looking to find wellness and lifestyle fitness through a fun sport.

And you'll not be on your own on the day, with the Hills Mentors, and the Cronulla Angels again stepping up as the TNSW Women's Mentor and liaison team, and as long time competitors, they will be able to answer any questions you have on the day and will even sit and explain the facets of the event for those wanting to know more.

Each year Triathlon NSW is proud to present the Tri Shave Women's Triathlon Festival, and this year there's even more chance to participate, with the Festival featuring FOUR races, all for women only, all over totally do-able formats and distances.

Triathlon is an Olympic sport, combining swimming, cycling and running and the Tri Shave Women’s Triathlon Festival is ironically based in one of the sport's legacies from the Sydney Olympics from 2000, the Sydney Regatta Centre, Penrith.

It is in this superb and safe environment that the TriNSW All Women's events for 2009 will be run, with all events comprising safe and easy distances in which to either participate or compete, and with a rare chance for women to relax as they exercise and have some fun in what will be three participatory events, and one competitive distance event.

The annual Festival of events is designed to promote a reason to get fit and partake in sport and of course deliver an exercise for and to women of all ages, shapes and sizes, with the emphasis on having ‘fun’ and competing for themselves.

Don't forget to bring the family and your friends as all are welcome to assist as your cheer squad on the day. This is, afterall, a great way of allowing women to make the transition from a ‘non-active’ to an ‘active’ life style at their own speed.

Women may enter as an individual entry, or together with a group of friends to make up a ‘team-relay entry’ in either the Midi or the Sprint distance event.

The four distances availabel are; the 'Try-a-Tri' Mini Sprint over a 150m Swim, 5km Cycle, 1.5km Run, the 'Enticer' Tri over a 250m Swim, 10km Cycle, 2.5km Run, the 'Midi' event, over a 350m swim, 15km cycle and 3.5km run- and then there's the 'full on' competitive Sprint Distance triathlon of 500m Swim, 20km Cycle, 5km run.

The sprint event will also have a relay team category.

So, are you a beginner, fully experienced, or just wanting to "have a go" at the sport we call triathlon?

Here's your chance over a sensational day of safe, planned participation or competition - it's your choice, take your pick of how you do it, but remember fitness is happiness so just do it!

Please note that the water at the International Regatta Centre may be below 24C at this time of year, and this will mean wetsuits maybe optional and can be worn in the events if the water temp is passes as option by our technical officials - this decision is made only on the morning of racing... if you believe you are not capable of the 500m sprint event, please enter the Enticer, which has a 250m swim - or the Midi, with it's 350m swim., all swims will be patrolled by professional life guards and are swum parallel with the bank in the main competition lake of the Regatta Centre.

NOTE:

Under Triathlon Australia Rules the events will be conducted in the following formats. Note that your age in triathlon, for these events, is determined as at 31 December 2010.

The Try-A-Tri – 150m Swim, 5km cycle and 1.5km run - is open to women between the ages of 10 as of 31/12/2010 and 80+ - the event is participation only – it is not competitive

The Enticer Tri – 250m Swim, 10km bike and 2.5km run - is open to women between the ages of 12 as of 31/12/2109 and 80+ - the event is participation only – it is not competitive

The Midi Tri – 350m Swim, 15km bike and 3.5km run - is open to women between the ages of 13 as of 31/12/2010 and 80+ - the event is participation only – it is not competitive - but a little more of a challenge for the beginners or those who just want to test themselves a little more.

The Sprint Tri - 500m Swim, 20km bike and 5 km run - is open to individual women between the ages of 14 and 80+ and team entries to women 13 to 80+ - This is a fully competitive event and is the one to enter if you want a good hit out in company with like minded competitive women! Expect a few 'names' to show for this one!

Importantly in 2010, the events will begin early in the day in cooler conditions and with all events being completed around midday... so you've got the top of the morning for triathlon, and the rest of the day to yourself, and time to stay for the presentation and luck draws too!

The Tri-A-Tri is just what is says, a do-able ultra-short distance hit out over the swim, bike and run for beginners and those who just what to 'have-a-go! - to see what a tri is really like over an easy distance and doable with the minimum training.

The Enticer distance event will be also ideal for beginners, and the woman who just wants to try the sport of triathlon but may already live the lifestyle, and trains a little. This distance too is absolutely do-able.

The Midi distance event will be also ideal for beginners, and the woman who just wants to try the sport of triathlon but may already live the lifestyle, and trains a little or more than a little. This distance is absolutely do-able for many women who may simply want to participate with no pressure to compete.

The Sprint event is a shortest of the competitive triathlon distances, but with a slightly shorter swim aiming to suit women who already have some or a lot of fitness and potentially have already competed in a triathlon before and want to go 'competitive' on the day. In this event you can fully challenge yourself.

All events, and a chat with the sport’s experts and celebrities before competition are all designed to build self-confidence, promote a healthy whole body image and self worth and importantly, the motivation to continue in the pursuit of basic exercise and fun through a very friendly sport.

To encourage and support the women participating in the event, child care will be provided by experienced child care workers as per the guidelines of the NSW Department of Sport and Recreation Childcare Guidelines.

Members of the Hills Triathlon Club will act as volunteers on the day and members of Cronulla Triathlon CLub have volunteered as specific participant mentors in all events.

And IMPORTANTLY, family and friends are warmly invited to attend and to also assist as volunteers on the day, able to cheer those they know on in their endeavors.

This event aims to welcome all women interested in a healthier lifestyle and who like to get out there and enjoy the great outdoors.

SO? What are you waiting for? Get out there and tell some one! Bring a friend, bring two or three and make this a fun day of outdoor relaxation and recreation, and get some lifestyle fitness enroute to finding out all about the sport of triathlon.
