TNSW PRO TOUR - RND 4 - KURNELL - INFO NOTES FOR COMPETITORS

TNSW PRO TOUR - RND 4 - KURNELL - INFO NOTES FOR COMPETITORS

Hi there Pro Tour Competitors,

The following are points that pertain to your race at Kurnell...

Firstly welcome to the fourth round of the TNSW Pro Tour - we hope the day is a good one for you and we invite you mingle with the TriShave Sydney Triathlon Series competitors, many of whom will be watching your race with interest.

After registering, from 5:15am onwards until 6:15am, (look for the table marked OPEN or ELITE or PRO TOUR) and please be early to avoid being run over by the 620+ age groupers racing, please proceed to body numbering, tech inspection and then rack your bikes and note that you have separately marked racks in Transition at the Discovery Centre end...

Primarily, your type of racing in this event is to help bolster your knowledge and familiarity with draft legal racing.

You will be racing under ITU / TA triathlon rules applying to draft legal racing – however there are some local points to note at Kurnell.

Firstly, there will be two waves, the first for Males the second for Females.

The First AG wave will be 6 min behind the female wave which will be one minute behind the male wave.

You may legally draft, however please note:

If you are passed by any AGers then ride as per non drafting rules

There is NO drafting off age group competitors

You must ride tempo - no more than two (2) abreast

Ride a pace and retreat line, retreat line on the left (if wind conditions allow)

No attacking from back of the bunch - no attacking in the middle of the road

Keep to the left at all times and inside the bicycle zone where marked

Your ability to ride in this way will ensure the opportunity to compete in a draft legal event at Kurnell continues

Police and Technical officials will be in attendance and may be following at any time

Handle Bar and Wetsuit rules as per ITU regulations – The Water temp will be taken and announced on the day by the TNSW Tech officials.

Additionaly we hope for those competing Sunday November 22nd that the day brings you a whole lot of fun and fitness, says you are training just fine and brings in a PB as well.

Following racing please note that ALL bikes are to remain in Transition until the PA announcement that you may clear your bike and gear from the area. We look to you as Pro Tour competitors (and there for as junior pros) to set the example for age groupers to follow. Please live up to our expectations in all respects of the race and TA racing regulations. TOs will be on hand and racing rules will be enforced.

TNSW hopes you enjoy racing at Kurnell this year. Our team is once again 'ready to race' ready, and once again headed by Nick Munting, Vinnie Segewick and Phil Bates, who have and are instrumental in making it happen on the day!

A quick sumary of the day shows:

Distance: 750 swim, 20km bike and 5km run..

Race 1: - 22nd November - racing starts sharp at 7:00am – so be VERY early for parking and don't fret if the national park parking area fill quickly as there is a VERY big field this weekend and internal parking is at a premium.

Plan to arrive early enough to walk in if driving or why not car pool and / or ride in from Shark Park where there is a lot of parking.

Please park as directed and remember there’s a stiff fine if parking incorrectly in the National Park.

Registration will commence at after 5:15am and we would like ALL Pro Tour Competitors to clear registration by 6:15am - so plan to be early and don't miss out! Your Race Briefing is at 6:30am and transition will close immediately after this.

If you are told parking in the National Park is full, please park in legal areas within the local suburban streets of Kurnell OFF THE COURSE, and do not hinder any local's egress or driveways to local properties. Cars parked illegally will be towed!

Venue: Botany Bay National Park, Captain Cook Drive, Kurnell

PLEASE NOTE:

If you have entered this race as a non-endorsed athlete (Juniors) or you do not have a pro endorsement of your TA License, you will be transferred to the age group race field on the day. It is your responsibility (as a budding pro athlete especially) to ensure you follow the information supplied, and the regulations in place for the TNSW Pro Tour.

The bike is an out and back cycle of 20km in length and we ask all competitors to use only the cycle lanes. This race for you is draft legal - TOs will patrol the course. Racing will be as per your written and pre-race verbal briefing.

The run is a delightful multi-lap run through the national park - soak it up and enjoy your finish!

GENERAL NOTES:

Bindies may be a slight problem at Race 1 but as of last week seemed OK- and have been sprayed this year - but bring your thongs or thick socks - we'll organise a thong transition or hand off at the swim exit if needed.

ALSO please note that due to continuing heavy construction equipment operating during the week on course, roads continue to break up, even after we've moved to fill pot holes on the route in conjunction with the council and Desal plant. Be prepared to warn your fellow competitors of  any dangers. We'll course check Saturday and mark any danger spots and explain them at the Sunday briefing.

PLEASE CHECK THE WEBSITE AT www.trinswrace.org for the very latest road conditions and note there may be a no racing area in the early and late part of the bike course due to ongoing road works...

The bike course will be swept Sunday morning before you race and hopefully all muck around the entrance to the 'DeSalination' entrance will be also gone.

Don't forget to check out the Coffee from Cafe Express and the Cronulla Club Bar BQ. Also our sensational supporters in Trishave, Bates Bikes, Bloackheart, Zoot/Conti Australia, and of course Fastgear, with High 5, the official hydration and K-Swiss. Most will be on hand. Rnd Four will not have massage facilities (but Rnd 6 will have)

CAR PARKING:

The future of racing at Kurnell rests entirely on how you park your car and how you conduct yourselves on course at all times!

We can't EVER emphasise this enough and with a big field this weekend, allied with a lot of wet weather recently, parking will be VERY tight. Please - if you are too late to fit in the National Park Parking, please park with respect for the local community and local residents!!!

Please make sure that where ever possible you car pool, or even ride in to the event, and try to bring at least two to three athletes into the Botany Bay National Park in each vehicle. There is very adequate car parking at Shark Park to allow this to happen but note that we have over 400 athletes and only 250 car parks open to competitors in the National Park - if you are running late please try to park in the public parking on Charles Street.

Please park ONLY as indicated in the National Park and note that FURTHER parking restrictions may occur in or following wet weather SO please obey the parking marshals at all times. Competitors caught ignoring marshals will be denied a race start!

PLEASE DO NOT BLOCK PUBLIC DRIVEWAYS and note that the course route in Kurnell is a no parking zone for the triathlon.

Observe all road and parking rules as council and park rangers will be VERY active!

PLEASE SHOW COURTESY to all residents, volunteers and especially EACH OTHER! Anything less will not be tolerated!

RULES TO REMEMBER:

-           Competitors only in transition areas

-           Bike helmets must be on and fastened BEFORE you un-rack your bike, and must remain fastened on return until the bike is re-racked!

-           DO NOT RIDE your bike in transition area

-           Mount and dismount your bike at the designated line.

-           Obey all road rules

-           Keep to the left of the cycle course unless overtaking

-           DO NOT ride on the wrong side of the roadway

-           You must ride in the CYCLE LANE during the bike leg, it is swept Sunday morning especially for you!

-           YOUR UPPER body must be covered AT ALL TIMES in the cycle and run legs!
Shoes MUST be worn on the run leg

-         Bikes must not be removed from Transition before being advised to do so.

-       Note: No MP3 players, Ipods, phones or radios are allowed to be used whilst competing. These are a major safety hazard in competition.

-           PLEASE RESPECT ALL SPECTATORS, OFFICIALS, VOLUNTEERS AND YOUR FELLOW ATHLETES!

PRIZES:

Round Six podium place getters will receive medals and there will be lucky draws on the day, so place your bib number in the box supplied for the chance to win prizes… and why not stay on a while and mingle with your fellow competitors! There's coffee, food and softdrink a plenty thanks to the Cronulla Club BarBQ and Cafe Express...

So here's to a fine day Sunday, and safe training to all!

Cheers

The TriNSW Race Team and TriNSW Committee
