RACING NEWS:
An Excellent day for the Aussies on the lava fields of Hawaii!
Congratulations to TNSW life member, Craig Alexander who today rewrote the history books as the first Australian, and only the fourth male, ever to win back to back Ironman titles in winning the 2009 Ford Ironman World Championship in Hawaii.
Chris McCormack finished 4th and Peter Jacobs was 8th in a great top ten for Australia.
Australia's Mirinda Carfrae finished second woman to an awesome performance by defending champ, Chrissie Wellington. Wellington gapped the field, finishing 20 minutes ahead of Mirinda and in 23rd position outright! However, Mirinda was the sole women in the top ten women to run under three hours!
Other Australian's officially listed as finishing include Kate Major in 20th, Charlotte Paul 28th, and Sydney's Nicole Ward in 33rd. Sadly, 80 year old Bob Southwell made it only as far as the end of the bike, but in a time that left him seven hours to complete the marathon! www.ironman.com and use the athlete tracker to find times and results for athletes you know...
