Well racing begins in earnest across an even bigger raft of TNSW events in this season, led by the youngsters in the TNSW Stage Junior Series that begins in Forster October 3rd & 4th.
From the TNSW SJS series, racing flows into the TNSW Pro Tour, State Championship events, commencing with the TNSW State Club Distance Champs at Morpeth and then into the Tri Shave Sydney Triathlon Series at Kurnell.
And wait, there’s more!
There’s the Tri Shave Women’s Festival, more state championships and of course the annual TNSW Club Championships, this year stepping back to its traditions of being an event for TNSW members only.
As with last season, inquiry is high and we do expect full fields and early closing for many major adult events...
So check the calendar carefully, keep an eye on the website and dive in with your entry as event entry opens. We expect entry for the Tri Shave Sydney Triathlon Series to be opened around October 5th, the Tri Shave Women’s Festival very soon after and the NSW Club Champs by mid-November.
Remember to keep an eye on the Racing & Results pages of the TNSW website at www.trinswrace.org
And now some news direct from the early races!
2009/2010 TNSW State Junior Series kicks off in Forster
So a quick reminder that in October there are a number of SJS races, in Forster and in Gunnedah with entry closing in 48 hours (Wednesday night) for rounds one and two at Forster and racing this coming weekend, ¾ October 2009.
Forster Triathlon Club proudly hosts the TNSW State Junior Series:
Based at Elizabeth Parade Reserve, Forster Keys, on the 3rd and 4th October two rounds will be run by the Forster Tri Club, that has previously run Junior Triathlon and more recently a State Aquathlon Championship for the last 12 years at this venue.
The events are part of TNSW State Junior Series that features events in many NSW areas including Forster, Gunnedah, Cronulla, Newcastle, Orange, and Mudgee.
Forster is renowned for its beautiful waterways / beaches and is always a popular event due to the support of the community and the Forster Club’s ability to host safe and well organised races.
The TNSW State Junior Series has always strongly showcased NSW’s junior triathlon talent, with several world class athletes “cutting their teeth” in these races. Beijing Olympic Bronze medallist and new world champion, Emma Moffat, locals and Australian representatives Brett Lee and Aaron Woolley and a host of other triathletes that are currently representing Australia in the ITU and Pro Tour professional ranks have all raced previous Junior Races at Forster.
Saturday 3rd October will see the staging of Race 1 of the TNSW State Junipr Series, which will be a traditional swim bike run triathlon format. The racing will begin at 12 noon with a “come and try” race that allows kids to race in a triathlon and encourages participates to use a mountain bike or a BMX bike. Entry forms for this race will be available on the clubs website (www.forstertriclub.com.au), Great Lakes Aquatic Centre or Forster Surf and Sport.
Following this first event, the TNSW State Junior Series races will commence, starting with the younger 7 – 9 year olds and finishing with the 16 -19 years. Locals are advised to please be tolerant when the children are on the bike leg and follow the traffic marshal’s directions and please avoid parking on Elizabeth Parade.
Sunday 4th October will be the NSW Junior Aquathlon Championship and also doubles up as Race 2 of the SJS. Racing will commence at 8 am and concludes at 12 noon. The State Aquathlon format is in the form of a run, swim, run, and provides plenty of spectator vantage points adjacent to all the action.
With Forster’s fabulous warm climate and beautiful scenery it is expected that a large contingent of the state’s junior triathletes will again head to these events, looking to produce their personal best, and finding out how all their winter training has gone.
Mario Schumacher - Race Director
NB: The race times are approximations only and are subject to slight changes.
PLEASE NOTE: All TNSW SJS enquiries in the first instance should be directed to the Host Club.
Please check carefully when entering and note that there are DIFFERENT entry forms for the TNSW State Junior Series and the TNSW Pro Tour events at Gunnedah and PLEASE use the specific entry form for EACH series, as we can NOT transfer entries from one series to the other... if you make a mistake you will need to withdraw from the wrong event and re-enter the correct event.
Please note that the Gunnedah events are scheduled for the weekend of October 25th and 26th.
Safe Training everyone, and fun racing!

NSW CLUB DISTANCE CHAMPIONSHIP – MORPETH – 10/11 OCTOBER 2009
TNSW Club Distance Champs and Morpeth Multisport Festival Weekend Nears.
Celebrating 16 years of swimming, cycling and running, the Maitland Multi-Sport Festival (including the TNSW Club Distance Championship) is set to attract some of the best athletes in Australia and also some of the newest novice competitors looking for a bit of fitness heading into summer.
With the Morpeth based Festival featuring two traditional distance triathlon formats and also separate 4km and 8km Fun Runs plus a 1500m River Swim, organiser H-Events expects to attract over 700 participants on 10 and 11 October.
The Maitland area event, which was started in 1994 by current Event Director Paul Humphreys and the Morpeth-Tenambit Rotary Club, has seen many format changes over the years, but continues to attract a solid field from all around NSW and Australia.
“It is the time of year where the warm weather gets everyone thinking about getting fit” Says H Event’s Paul Humphreys. “Everyone needs a goal to get fit and for many this has become an annual spring tradition’.
World Class Sexton home to chase local win!
Amongst those choosing to race the early season event is local world cup elite competitor, Brendan Sexton. Brendan is likely to use the racing to balance his off season training, before heading to Europe. On the other end of the spectrum there will be absolute novice competitors and first timers also lining up to complete the scenic course around Morpeth and Duckenfield.
This year event organisers are partnering with Maitland Triathlon Club, Maitland Sunrise Rotary Club, Stockton Surf Lifesaving, Maitland CREST, Maitland SES, St Johns Ambulance, East Maitland Scouts and Maitland PCYC. The event is a win-win for the local area raising money for local sports and community groups.
